Everything was going so well, I had two of the three motor mounts on my Focus replaced, with only the lower mount to go. It’s held on by two bolts. I had the first one out, started on the second, when I snapped it in two. Fuck. Do to its location, I couldn’t drill it out, and I don’t have the tool to remove a broken bolt. So, off to the mechanics shop it went, so they can remove the broken bolt and install the final motor mount. Luckily, I can borrow my parents Impala for a day or two while my car gets fixed. My wife was throwing massive shade this morning, as the money I saved doing the repair work myself is going to be eaten away by the mechanics bill. I wouldn’t think it will be too painful, but I’ll find out tomorrow. Pray for me.

I can’t remember everything that was replaced at the time but I remember when the motor mounts were replaced on my Mom’s focus it cost $300. Totally worth it.

Only time I’ve had motor mounts changed I paid about $50 in parts and 1/2 hour labour. Of course the engine was completely out already at the time so I figured it was a bit of a ripoff. No way it took a half hour to undo and redo eight bolts.

The upper mounts were not hard, at all. I only had to move the coolant tank on the passenger side (one bolt and a clip), and the battery for the driver side. A few bolts and out they came. I just had to support the engine with a floor jack. Why the bolt snapped on the lower one I have no idea. If that hadn’t happened, it would have been done in a couple of hours, tops.

I had read it wasn’t amazingly hard to do it. Just at the time none of us felt like it. What year is it?
